John Murach of Baltimore Gas & Electric Company led a discussion of the electricity crisis in California and the likelihood of such a situation here.
There were many contributing factors in the current California crisis. The geographical arrangement of the state north and south as well as the mountains on the east and the population centers on the west present distribution problems. The dependence on hydro- electric sources and on using excess capacity from neighboring states contributed to the crisis when these sources were impacted by the lack of rainfall in the last several years. The failure to construct any new generating sources over the past ten years created energy shortages as demand increased. Shortage of supply and increased demand causes price increases.
There is no similar situation here. We continue to build new generating capacity and can rely on the consortium of neighboring states to balance needs.
John's presentation was detailed and stimulated questions and discussions.
Our next meeting will be on Wednesday, July 18. The tentative program will be from Starwood Ceruzzi, the new owners of Hunt Valley Mall with an update.
There will be no meeting in August. Meetings will resume on September 19 and will be held on the third Wednesday of each month. This will allow those who want to attend the Human Resources Roundtable also to do so.
Please advise me if there are others in your company who should receive these summaries and announcements at
