The focus of this meeting was to determine the acceptance of the growth projection figures by Baltimore County or to provide the county with better data reflecting what we believe will occur over the next twenty years.

Emery Hines led the discussion by distributing the data showing growth as measured historically and projected. The base period was 1988 and the data was obtained through tax records that are not available to us. There was great concern over basing assumptions on such old data. Emery will advise us if current data is available and the cost to obtain such data.

It was the consensus of the Roundtable that we should not accept the County projections but seek more reliable data for the County to use in its projections and recommendations to the State for action to relieve present and perceived traffic issues.

Craig Forrest advised us that this had been tried before but we were unable to provide meaningful input. We should be very aware of the importance of these issues and their timely resolution.

Craig advised that there were really two issues. One was the projected employment growth of the area generated by commercial development. Jeff Stzelczyk voiced his concerns over an under estimation. Bill Ramsey reminded us that many area manufacturers are scaling back their employee needs while scaling up their technological growth.

The other issue, and to Craig the more important, is the Ashland bypass issue. This issue has been around for years and needs to be mediated. It involves area businesses, residents as well as elected state representatives.

The Roundtable decided to address the two issues with a task force for each. Lou Boeri will lead the task force on commercial growth. With David Fritz, Lou will identify and contact the relevant developers in the area to determine plans in place and projected that will affect employment growth.

Rick Webb, in absentia, was appointed to address the Ashland issue by arranging a meeting or meetings with the parties involved to seek a mutually agreeable solution to this problem.

Your comments are encouraged.

The next scheduled meeting of the Roundtable will be September 19. Subsequent meetings will be held on the third Wednesday of each month.
