Clare Berrang welcomed Brian Gibbons, President of Erwin L. Greenberg Commercial Corporation, the new owner of Hunt Valley Mall. Congratulations to Clare for arranging with Brian to join us today. Clare had diligently pursued the previous owner to talk to us but without cooperation from them.

The changes to begin this spring will turn the mall into a main street town center while leaving the key anchors on each end. The street theme will be similar to their recently completed project in the Village of Waugh Chapel in Crofton. Demolition of the existing center section of the mall and building new shops on a street from Shawan Road near Allfirst Bank north., will create 280,000 square feet of space replacing the former 400,000 square feet. Sears, Dick’s, Wal-Mart and Burlington and the movie theatres will remain. DSW Shoes will be relocated and everything else will be new. One new anchor for each end will be added. Construction is expected to take 24 to 30 months.

Brian displayed a prospective plan and detailed the project. Some notable features will be an emphasis on Hunt Valley Center or Hunt Valley Town Center, as it will be called, as a day and evening destination. Local restaurants rather than national chains are planned. These restaurants and the movie venues will enhance the evening appeal. The tenant mix at the stores will be both local and national. Appearance will be improved by offering buildings finished on all four sides with services and trash removal located underground.

The business community is encouraged by Greenberg’s desire to include a day-care, child development facility. This project is welcomed by the Corporate Members of the Hunt Valley Business Forum as indicated by the enthusiastic reception of the plans by those present. Baltimore County Councilman T. Bryan McIntire voiced his support of the project and assured us that “this will work”.

Tenants are being sought and those interested should call Mark Bomse at 410-559-2500. Questions regarding the on-going development should contact Kim Potember at 410-559-2500 x 128. Kim assisted Brian in the presentation and will be the liaison for the project.

Brian advised us that Erwin L. Greenberg Commercial is a local company with a local interest and has the capital necessary to assure successful completion.

The Roundtable thanked Brian for joining us today.

Randall Scott from State Highway Administration reported, as attached, on road construction projects.
