Clare Berrang welcomed those attending and turned the meeting over to Emery Hines, Senior Transportation Officer for Baltimore County Department of Public Works. Emery presented the annual transportation report for Greater Hunt Valley.

Emery presented by PowerPoint and handout, six study alternatives and the effect on traffic flow along the major roads that your employees, suppliers and customers use to get to your business. Each intersection and road was shown with the effects of the alternatives on each. The Shawan /Papermill Road Extension was one of the alternatives. Emery used data available to him and the data supplied by the Forum. The Forum data resulted from a committee of commercial real estate developers who actually surveyed all developers with plans for construction over the years 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005. The data submitted by the Forum showed a significant increase over the projections by the County. Emery reported that the Office of Planning has not accepted our finding.

Emery asks that the Forum request the Office of Planning to review the employment forecast for Hunt Valley and that SHA conduct an Owings Mills/MD 140 type study. Emery suggested that the Forum should reconsider our old model of transportation emphasis and manage a Travel Demand Measures program.

The Executive Committee of the Forum will discuss action to bring to the attention of the Office of Planning the necessity of further consideration of our findings.

Sue Auman, delegate to the Maryland House of Delegates, joined in the discussion. Sue is on the Appropriations Committee.

Capt. Ron Schwartz reminded us of the “buckle up” campaign. Ron also reported a spike in crime in the Cockeysville area. Keep garages and sheds locked and secure outdoor valuables. Ron also said the Baltimore County Police Department would be grateful if one of the developers in the Highlands would like to donate a parcel of land for a new police station. The Wight Avenue facility has been outgrown.

Roy Pipenbring, Minute Man Press, is active with the Baltimore County Historical Society and reports they are looking for a new home.

Randall Scott reported from SHA. Improvements to York Road and Shawan Road in the turn lanes are nearing completion. Work continues at I-83 and Timonium Road. Work is planned on York Road in Hereford.
