Clare Berrang introduced David Iannucci, Director of the Baltimore County Department of Economic Development.

David discussed the exciting growth taking place in Hunt Valley. Member MacKenzie Commercial and Kinsley Properties are redeveloping a 150,000 square foot building at 111 Schilling Road for the St. Paul Companies who are relocating from their facilities in Mt. Washington. They will also be rehabbing other buildings, building a new building and naming the complex Schilling Place at Hunt Valley. Also featured in the discussion was the move by Wegman’s to the new Hunt Valley Towne Center, the relocation of Millennium Chemical Headquarters to Hunt Valley and the relocation of the headquarters of the parent of member AAI to Hunt Valley.

Lou Boeri of Merritt Properties announced the purchase and redevelopment of the Lucent Technology property.

Hunt valley has become the East Coast epicenter for the computer games industry. Members Firaxis games and Breakaway Ltd. Have led this growth.

David stated that the role of the Department is to retain existing companies while encouraging new companies to come to Hunt Valley and Baltimore County.

We have a strong biotechnology presence in Hunt Valley in member Becton Dickinson and there is interest in increasing this presence. The County has large areas of development ready land for such use. David also discussed the explosion of commercial development in eastern Baltimore County.

An active question and answer period followed. Conversation turned to the issue of slots at the Timonium Fairgrounds. Delegate Susan Aumann was able to give us some useful background on the issue.

Lee Sandler of Madison Capital was introduced as a new member.

Liberty Property Trust recently purchased North Park and will be expanding their presence in Hunt Valley.

Ketch Secor announced that he is now associated with MacKenzie Commercial Real Estate.

This was the last meeting for Harris Mager of Verizon. Harris will be retiring. Dave Robinson was present as the new representative for Verizon.

Vickie White of Safeguard Maintenance was welcomed and will be returning as a member.
