Delegate Susan Aumann representing the 42nd district at the Maryland General Assembly led us in a discussion about the recently concluded session. Susan is a member of the very important Appropriations Committee and a member of the sub-committee on education. We have a unanimously approved balanced budget but problems remain to be addressed in future budgets. The Thornton plan was fully funded. The issue of slots remained contentious until the end with the vision of a solution in doubt.

The message that Susan left with us was to get involved. Susan has attended as many of our Roundtables as her schedule has permitted. As a result, Susan successfully introduced two bills that resulted from information gleaned from our discussions. Our Roundtables are a venue where the concerns of businesses are put directly in front of our representatives who participate. Susan will encourage other representatives from Baltimore County to join us. Your help in encouraging the representatives from the 42nd, 7th and 5th districts to join our discussions will strengthen our voice.

Marty Lurz gave a public safety report and discussed a fraud incident that has been distributed to you by email. It concerned office burglaries that have compromised personal data in paper and computer systems. Further discussion of identity theft will be the subject of the Human Resources Roundtable on June 3.
