Program Director Clare Berrang introduced Emery Hines, Transportation Officer in the Baltimore County Department of Public Works. Emery then introduced Harvey Bloom and Regina Aris of the Baltimore Metropolitan Council. Harvey is Director of Transportation Planning and Regina is Manager of Plan and Policy Development, Transportation Planning Division.

Regina made a presentation including the history of the Baltimore Metropolitan Council, the Metropolitan Planning Organization and the Baltimore Regional Transportation Board. This Board is composed of members of Anne Arundel County, Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Harford County, Carroll County, Howard County, the city of Annapolis, the Maryland Department of Transportation and the Maryland Department of Planning. All of this is focused on development of Transportation 2030, a long-range transportation plan for the area. Regina discussed key tasks already accomplished and key tasks remaining. The draft Preferred Alternative has been released for public review and comment before September 22.

You are urged to visit www.baltometro.org for information. On the bottom left side of the homepage there is a button for Transportation 2030 that will take you directly to the information. Regina explained charts depicting transportation issues and distributed schedules of the Committed Capital Highway Improvements 2003-2008 and Proposed Capital Highway Improvements 2009-2030. We are all affected by plans for highway improvements that will affect our ability to serve our employees, our customers and our growth.

Road improvements are not the only way to reduce congestion. www.teleworkbaltimore.com can help you set up a telecommuting program that will allow your employees to work from home.
