The Roundtable opened with a discussion about improving service levels at the Cockeysville Post Office. It was felt that a Roundtable discussion with Wayne Bender, Postmaster, might lead to solutions benefiting all. Addressing the difficulties facing the Post Office and exploring ways businesses might cooperate to find solutions would be a win-win. I will contact Wayne to explore this suggestion.

There will be a conference on Emergency Preparedness and Response for Individuals with Disabilities on January 26. Information was emailed to all members of the Forum inviting them to attend. Erin Holloway from the Department of Emergency Management commented on the conference.

A Walkability Survey is scheduled in Hunt Valley in March to seek solutions to unsafe walking conditions in the area. An email was sent requesting those companies interested in participating to reply with a description of the condition and their interest in developing a solution.

Marty Lurz gave the public safety report for Precinct 7. Marty is serving as temporary commander while Mark Warren is away on temporary duty. The good news is that our crime rate continues to fall. The bad news is that there have been two bank robberies within the last three weeks. There has been an increase in attacks on the elderly after leaving banks. The solution to us all is to be aware of your surroundings. Secure your cash or your wallet after leaving a bank or any other business after a transaction. If you look alert and aware you are a less likely target.

Emery Hines, Senior Transportation Officer for Baltimore County, led our discussion on Master Plan 2010. A PowerPoint hand out for our reference to planned projects accompanied the presentation. Funding has been increased to carry out the Draft 2005 projects that include a long list of planned road improvements. Emery also discussed the county improvements for Padonia and Warren Roads. Emery reminded us that the Planning Board has not been presented with the results of the study done by the Forum on commercial development growth on York Road from Wight Avenue to Belfast Road. This issue requires further consideration by the Executive Committee.

Bob Steffey gave a very abbreviated SHA report. Most of the material was covered in Emery’s summary.

Rick Webb initiated discussion about the November Northern County Traffic Study organized by General Assembly Delegate Wade Kach. The meeting sought to identify the problems with increasing traffic levels on I-83 and the impact on the “maintain only” parallel country roads. The problems were identified but solutions remain to be found.

After the meeting, Nate Bennett of Proctor & Gamble commented on some of the consequences of light rail closing. Delays in employees getting to work have resulted in some shift closing. Nate is working with MTA to resolve the problems. If you are having problems, please talk to MTA. See our summary of the December 15, 2004 meeting for resources that can help.
