Steven Stewart, Baltimore County Watershed Management and Monitoring, made the second presentation of the Goodwin-Hunt Valley-Loveton Small Watershed Action Plan (SWAP) focusing on the monitoring results to date, a business self assessment process for identification of pollution sources and an overview of restoration/pollution reduction options for business facilities.

An index of SIC codes indicating facilities for monitoring was distributed. Steven explained the permit application process for those businesses required to file.

A process called a hot-spot assessment is currently being conducted for representative business and industry sites within the planning area. The presentation explained how the assessment is conducted and offered an opportunity for businesses to conduct self assessments to identify potential pollution problems and corrective actions on their sites.

A final presentation of the completed plan will be given in January or February 2006.

A workshop for preparation of Pollution Prevention Plans will be announced when more information is available.

Attached is an invitation to a State of Our Watersheds conference to be held Saturday October 15. If you would like to attend, complete the application on the invitation by Friday, October 7. This is the third annual conference on the State of Our Watersheds hosted by Baltimore County and Baltimore City. The theme for this year is impervious surfaces and how they affect streams and water quality; along with some remedies for impervious surface caused impacts. There will also be a session on communicating technical information to motivate change.
