Lt. Bob McGraw gave the public safety report. Crime, in general, is up. Of particular concern are incidents at gas stations. Bob detailed other crimes but did comment that auto theft is down. I guess they can’t afford the gas!

Pamela Tucker of TeleCommuting, Inc., enthusiastically led our discussion on telecommuting or simply working from home or some other location away from the work place. Obvious beneficiaries of telecommuting are clean air and traffic congestion relief. Less obvious are the savings to the employee in commuting costs and the savings to the employer by reducing the need for space and thus lowering cost of facilities.

Telecommuting is not for everyone or every company. It produces challenges for management in supervising the telecommuter and removes the worker from interaction with fellow workers. Telecommuting need not be a five day a week event but can be developed to satisfy the needs of both employee and employer while still satisfying the obvious benefits.

Woody Bannister reported from our first responders, the Cockeysville Volunteer Fire Company. We depend on them and they must depend on us for their continuity. Flyers have been mailed to businesses in the Hunt Valley area asking support for their annual fund drive. Please be generous. If you haven’t received a flyer, contact me and I will fax you one. Their annual golf outing is a lot of fun and a source of revenue for them. You can enjoy golf and help CVFC at the same time. The event is on July 17 at Hunt Valley Golf Club. You can help by playing or sponsoring. For more information on both events, contact Woody Bannister at 410-472-4760.

Kelly Kosino reported from SHA on road construction. For up to date information, visit www.marylandroads.com.

Capt. David Marzola reported on light rail security for the MTA Transit Police. David explained the presence of the mobile security device located at the Hunt Valley station.
