Richard Muth, Director of the Baltimore. County Department of Homeland
Security and
Emergency Management led our discussion on the organization of the
department and its state of readiness. Levels of emergency are described
as local, Baltimore County, Maryland and Federal and are natural or man
made. The number one risk is hazardous material related. Responses to
risk can be shelter in place or evacuation. Evacuation is rarely used.
Cycles of risk mitigation are planning, response and recovery. Planning
for action in case of an event is critical. Richard’s office is
available to help you through the steps that lead to preparedness and
preparedness is fundamental in assuring business continuity.

Reminder: Flyers have been mailed to businesses in the Hunt Valley area
asking support for their annual fund drive. Please be generous. If you
haven’t received a flyer, contact me and I will fax you one. Their
annual golf outing is a lot of fun and a source of revenue for them. You
can enjoy golf and help CVFC at the same time. The event is on July 17
at Hunt Valley Golf Club. You can help by playing or sponsoring. For
more information on both events, contact Woody Bannister at
410-472-4760.
