Our program for today was a presentation by Capt. Marty Lurz on the state of Precinct 7
and the way operations of the Precinct work with and to the benefit of the business and
residential community. Public safety information between business and community is linked because so many of our workers also live in the north central area of Baltimore County. Marty started by distributing an organizational chart of the Precinct. Each level and the assigned personnel were shown giving us clear understanding about where to go for any level of service.

Marty stated that there are more than 60,000 responses each year in the Precinct. Cooperation between government and business is essential and in the 7th Precinct is a practiced fact. Traffic issues are a major factor in the Precinct. With burglaries up more than 40%, the timely messages from Marty regarding protective action should be read by every business and distributed to workers. Over 50% of burglaries are committed by entry through unlocked doors and windows.

Marty discussed the work of the Cockeysville Police & Community Relations Council which meets the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7:00 pm at the Bank of America Building (formerly MBNA). The Forum is a supporting member. Marty also discussed the Citizens’ Academy. A class is in progress now and the next one will be in the spring. Notice will be sent.

Mark Demski, Baltimore County Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management gave an update. At our meeting next month (see below). MEMA will lead our discussion.

Randy Scott reported on road conditions for SHA. Construction on route 45 in the Timonium area will begin this winter.

Capt. David Marzola, Maryland Transit Police, reported that a CCTV project will begin at the Metro station at Camden Yards and along light rail stations in February 2007.

We are looking for corporate interest in sponsoring a trolley project with Greenberg Gibbons to move people from the Hunt Valley Business Community to the Towne Center during the lunch period. This would certainly a more efficient way to get there than dealing with your car at that busy time. Your comments will be welcome.

We are working with rabbittransit in York, Pa. to find better ways to move people along the I-83 corridor from York to Hunt Valley. Interested in learning more? We will discuss this at the November meeting.
