Katie Leahan of Maryland Emergency Management Agency covered both topics this morning because Erin Holloway was busy giving birth. Katie started with the subject Erin was to discuss. ATIX is the Automated Trust and Information Exchange that permits the exchange of secure information among subscribers. Companies such as Constellation Energy and BG & E are currently using this resource. In order to use the service, application must be made. A form is available if you wish to subscribe. Send your request to director@hvbf.org. More information is available from cleahan@mema.state.md.us.

Katie used the remaining time to discuss the Family First initiative for Maryland residents who want to be informed and prepared for an emergency. Dialing 911 is not a solution in the case of a significant emergency situation. It should be expected that in the event of a catastrophic emergency, you are on your own for the first 72 hours. Government will not be able to respond any sooner. You must prepare yourself by having sufficient water (1 gallon per person), emergency food and a battery or crank powered portable radio. The Family First booklet distributed by Katie contains important information. Katie described Maryland’s participation in the rescue operations in New Orleans following Katrina with a comparison to readiness in Maryland and lessons learned.

Marty Lurz gave a public safety report and an update on the survey being done at Gilroy and Beaver Dam Roads as a result of recent accidents. Results will be released when complete.

Kelly Kosino gave a highway report from SHA. Road work to York Road from Craven to Ridgely will begin soon and is expected to take three years.
