The focus of the discussion was the growing traffic problems on I-83 during morning and evening rush hours. I-83 has become the link between York County and Hunt Valley for the many Marylanders who have moved to York County because of the cost of housing. It is also the link for Pennsylvanians who commute to work centers in Hunt Valley and Baltimore City. Rabbittransit, a York County agency, proposes to connect the York Transit Center and three other locations along I-83 — Exits 24,16 and 4 in Pennsylvania — with the light rail station in Hunt Valley in morning
and afternoon runs. Commuters would pay $90 to $110 monthly for van pools, and $200 monthly for bus service — a cost that could be reduced to $140 monthly with passes purchased in advance. A survey done by rabbittransit indicates a great amount of interest. Responders to the survey indicate that saving time was far more important than saving gas. More work needs to be done to bring this to a reality. The funding is reachable. Maryland General Assembly Delegate Wade Kach, Senior Transportation Officer for Baltimore County Emery Hines and Buddy Alves, Marketing Director for M. T. A. enthusiastically embraced the concept and agreed to work toward implementation. There will be more discussions as we seek to make this happen now.

For more information contact Richard Farr, Executive Director for rabbittransit at rfarr@rabbittransit.org. The website is www.rabbittransit.org.

Bob Steffey gave a road work update for SHA and Mark Demski reported for the Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management. Capt Marty Lurz cautioned for continued vigilance in securing our places of business from unauthorized persons. This continues to be the cause for laptop theft. Residents are encouraged to keep doors and windows locked as the number of cat burglary incidents continues. Capt David Mazola presented a security update on light rail. The incidents of serious crimes have gone down from 10 to 2 in comparison with last year in the six months since light rail service resumed.

The Facilities, Security Transportation Roundtable will not meet in December because of the proximity of the holidays.
