Shirley Tyler facilitated our peer discussion on Developing Management and Leadership skills.
Participants shared their company’s participation in leadership development programs. The group was divided between those who had a formal program in place and those who did not. Shirley noted that the leading cause of job change was the lack of quality management leadership. The cost of this turnover varies from 41% of salary for frontline employees to 241% of salary for middle managers. This focuses the need for effective leadership programs.
Patsy Griffin detailed the leadership programs at Lucent and the effectiveness of these programs in a climate of change.
Measuring performance through periodic reviews is a measure of leadership effectiveness. The existence of such reviews and the way they are conducted varied widely among participants and stimulated active discussion.
Shirley distributed hand out material which is available if you could not attend.
The next meeting of the Roundtable will be on Thursday, August 2 from 8:30 AM to 9:30
AM at Systems Alliance; 34 Loveton Circle. The subject is Succession Planning will be a roundtable discussion. Please come prepared to share how your company handles succession
planning.
