Susan Fine opened the Roundtable with introductions of the attendees. Susan then introduced Henry Smith of Smith & Downey who led our discussion on Benefits Law. Henry focused on the sweeping changes in the Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001.

The Act provides opportunities in tax qualified retirement plans, ESOPS, IRS’s as well as many other changes impacting financial planning. Henry provided handouts detailing the important changes in the Act. Henry cautioned that early action on these changes might be prudent because of the possibility that Congress will change some provisions when they realize the effects of these changes.

Henry distributed a handout describing recent developments in the law and a handout titled “Recent Developments in Employee and Executive Compensation”.
