Chairperson Shirley Tyler opened the Roundtable with the announcement that she would be leaving soon to be married and will relocate to Kansas City. We will miss her leadership and mentoring of this Roundtable. Shirley announced that Susan Fine would be our new Interim Chairperson until she is confirmed at our annual meeting in March.

Each person attending introduced themselves and their companies. A special welcome was given to Judie Jerbi of PHH Arval who has recently rejoined the Forum. Steve O’Connor was welcomed back and now represents TESST College of Technology.

Francesca Lynch of Aon Consulting led our discussion of Rising Health Care Costs. Francesca distributed a handout outlining her presentation. The reasons were noted for steadily increasing health care costs and some of things we can do to control these costs. Some are beyond our control, particularly in small group coverage.

Strategies discussed were:

  • Renewal negotiations

  • Prescription drug strategies

  • Care management

  • Consumer directed health care

  • Traditional approaches

  • Employee education.

Health care costs may continue to rise but understanding your options and keeping your employees informed is a major step toward reasonable containment.

Francesca answered questions from those attending.
