Chairwoman Susan Fine welcomed those attending the Roundtable. Each person introduced themselves and their company.

Susan introduced Melissa Wilcox of MarketWorks who led our discussion on “Training Works. The impact of learning on Productivity and morale”.

Melissa gained our attention with a brief session of arm/thumb wrestling to emphasis the point that for each winner, there is a loser. Winners train their employees because it is more effective and cost saving than recruiting and hiring.

Training boosts morale because employees realize that you are interested in their success. Training emphasizes priorities and energizes employees who are more likely to stay and become more productive. Employees can keep pace with changing business conditions through training.

Melissa emphasized that helping workers with personal development is as important as enhancing skill levels.

Learning must be integrated into the culture. Employees should be encouraged to be responsible for their own development.

Discussion followed on on-line training. The sense of the discussion was that this does not replace personal interaction. This was a very interactive meeting with participation and idea exchange.

Melissa Wilcox can be reached at MarketWorks at phone 410-751-6238 or email mwilcox@mktwks.com.
