HVBF Monthly Meeting - Human Resources
Roundtable Host: Loyola College in Maryland Attending:
Chairwoman Eileen Edwards opened our meeting to discuss HR issues suggested by those attending. Our first case involved the lack of focus by senior management on the importance of encouraging middle managers to take seriously regulatory guidelines required of federal contractors. Several suggestions were offered to reinforce the importance of the role of the HR department in avoiding sanctions by a client for failure to follow mandatory procedures. Solutions discussed asked for performance through a leadership model, auditing performance to demonstrate to management the success level and offering reward/punishment for compliance. The next scenario involved the lack of visibility of senior management and access by employees. When the management style of senior management is inaccessibility, the challenge of the HR department to maintain moral is considerable. Discussion centered on ways to involve senior management in a relaxed atmosphere to promote a closer relationship and exchange of useful information with subordinates. These could be brown bag lunches, achievement recognition or similar informal meetings. TESST College of Technology, Towson Campus would like to
