Retiring Chairwoman Eileen Edwards was recognized for
her leadership of the Human Resources Roundtable. Eileen will be
retiring from KCI but we hope will continue to attend this Roundtable as
our guest. Chairwoman nominee Christine Eichler of PDP Group, Inc. was
introduced and will lead us in subsequent meetings. Mary Ellen Judy and
Mary Atteberry-White will continue in the designing of programs for the
roundtable.
Mary Kraft & Associates provided complimentary
breakfast. If your company would like to participate in exchange for
recognition and distribution of your company information, please advise.
The cost is just $100.
Tom Maze of Polaris Human Capital Management led our
discussion on Identifying and Retaining Top Performers. Identification
of top performers begins at the hiring process. Tom said, “You can hire
a turkey and teach it how to climb a tree but you are better off hiring
a squirrel”. Tom then proceeded to tell us how to identify that
squirrel. For retaining those top performers, they must be identified.
Who do you want to retain? Identifying the 20% who produce 80% of the
value becomes the goal. What motivates key producers to stay? Certainly
not pay which ranks historically around fifth in reasons. Money is not a
driver. The secret is: The Manager-not pay, benefits, perks, or a
charismatic leader- is the critical player in building a strong
workplace.
A handout and a PowerPoint presentation supported Tom’s
program. For more information, contact Tom at
