Chairwoman Christine Eichler welcomed those attending and thanked Jim Randisi, our presenter this morning, for providing breakfast. Mary Ellen Judy asked us to write suggested programs for next year on a sheet being passed.

Jim led our discussion on Pre Employment Screening and Background Investigations. Jim began by demonstrating a new drug test that is easy to administer. It is Intercept, an oral fluid drug test that produces results in two days after sending to the lab.

Background checks are a source to uncover good things as well as bad about a prospective employee. Jim encouraged employment verification with previous employers. Information shared between employers in Maryland is protected. Failure to provide accurate and relevant information can result in serious legal consequences. This shared information must be truthful and documented.

Well planned investigations will increase workforce quality, reduce fraudulent claims, reduce negligent hiring tort, reduce risk of workplace violence and protect company assets.

The handout prepared by Jim is a virtual encyclopedia of resources for the human resources department. Sample forms and checklists as well as case studies are included.

For more information contact Jim at jprandisi@verizon.net or call 410-494-0232.

At the conclusion of the roundtable, Jim conducted a business card drawing for books helpful in investigations for three lucky attendees.
