Christine introduced Larry Trainor, Executive Vice
President and CFO of Eastern Savings Bank.
Larry attributes the success of the bank, now celebrating its 100th
anniversary, to its corporate culture. That culture has been developed
and nurtured by a commitment through its human resources policies that
place the recruitment, selection and training of associates as priority
one. Associates become a part of that culture through recognition,
incentives and rewards. The result is a highly focused workforce that
understands the company mission and has the training and motivation to
accomplish that mission. Employee turnover is low. Of the 250 employees,
98 have been with the bank for 10 or more years. The bank has no
president. It is operated by a three person executive committee. Larry
says that associates leave their egos at the door and use mutual respect
to get the job done. Their principle of human resource management is the
bridge between associates and senior management.
At the conclusion of the roundtable, Scott conducted a
business card drawing for a very helpful and innovative cookbook.
