Chairperson Christine Eichler welcomed those attending.
Christine introduced Tom Strong of Venable who led our discussion on
affirmative action.
Tom guided us through the proposed changes to present
rules governing employer responsibilities. The PowerPoint presentation
and hand-out detailed the changes. At this time there is no effective
date for the changes. New audit procedures are an important component of
the changes.
Tom cautioned that employer affirmative action plans
should be reviewed. The cost to defend actions brought against employers
for violations are very expensive and particularly costly for small
businesses to defend.
Tom stressed that we need to address problems with under
represented minority groups of workers.
Sandra Brown, Teledyne Energy Systems, Inc. offered the
following websites for census data:
The first site provides you with the data. The second site is the
listing of the standard occupational codes. It provides you with a job
description when you in doubt as to the proper classification of a job.
