Chairperson Christine Eichler welcomed those attending and introduced Steve Connolly, Business Services Specialist at the Baltimore County Office of Employment and Training.

Steve gave an overview of the employment opportunities and challenges of Baltimore County. The composition of the existing work force would indicate that the opportunities for workers are positive and the opportunities for employers are challenging. These opportunities for both will expand exponentially as the effects of BRAC unfold in the coming months and years. There will be a pressing need for trained workers at every level for the 9,000 government jobs moving to APG and the 20,000 plus supporting contract workers. Employers will be challenged to compete for workers. Businesses will need to meet the demand for manufacturing, office and warehouse space and to provide the services required by the expanding work force. The Office of Employment and Training is ready to assist in meeting these challenges.
