Christine welcomed Joe Biglin of TrainingPort Strategies, LLC to tell us about the growth of the gaming industry into an educational resource. TrainingPort Strategies LLC is a new entity created by Joe and remains related to BreakAway Ltd.

Joe began by developing the growth of games as a training tool. There are vast differences in the way we learn depending upon when we learned. Young people entering the work force today are equipped with a different set of learning tools than those who have been in the work force for any length of time. Learning is done more by problem solving than by rote. Today’s learning by games, if we can call them games, is by moving through simulated situations in a manner that results in solutions. The largest users of these tools are the military, the government, and educational institutions. Games can be constructed that result in successful completion of requirements for specific task certification.

Cheryl Burkett and Ginny Roil of Hereford High School led us in a discussion about the Baltimore County Public School Career Transitions Programs available to both students and employers. These resources through Work Experience Programs, Internship Programs, Career Shadow Day, Senior Interviews and the Maryland Business Roundtable Partnership bring together students searching for a rewarding career and employers searching for valuable workers. Details of the programs were explained and left with us in folder form. These are programs that help us identify, support and retain our most qualified students.
