Karen Fitzpatrick of RJP Associates introduced Michelle
Seager who led our discussion on Sexual Harassment Prevention Training.
Under EEOC more than 13,000 sexual harassment claims were filed in
2002-2003 fiscal year. Nearly ninety percent of Fortune 500 companies
surveyed had received sexual harassment complaints; over one third had
been involved in lawsuits and twenty-five percent had been repeatedly
sued. The average cost of defending a sexual harassment claim is $
250,000. Michelle presented ten questions to see how informed we are
about sexual harassment matters. We then proceeded to answer those
questions through discussion. Michelle defined and listed the types of
sexual harassment. Employer and personal liability is significant.
Prevention is the key and your company policy must include a plan to
deal with this issue.
