Our discussion was led by Erica Fulginiti and Brian O’Mailey of Systems Alliance. Although an intranet is a communications tool available to most companies, few make effective use of its advantages. In intended usage, it allows employees to access human resource information without the need to involve your HR personnel. In practice, calls are still made to the HR department for information easily accessible on the intranet. With proper preparation this trend can be changed. Planning is the key. Success depends first on a detailed plan aimed at employee adoption. Organize your intranet for easy use. Market the launch of your intranet to attract employee attention. Publishing the lunch menu may be a good start. Allow departments to maintain the content in areas of their responsibility. The benefit is cost savings to you and timely, accurate information available to your workers.
