Jay Majmuder of TESSCO Technologies led the discussion. Tim Cole and Bob Wilson, also of TESSCO Technologies, joined Jay in the presentation.
Jay introduced us to the buzzwords of wireless:
- Blackberry
- 3 G
- 2.5 G
- GSM
- Blue Tooth
- WAP
- WML
- I-Mode
- IEEE 802.11 X
After passing around a Blackberry, Jay turned the discussion to the adaptation of wireless technology to pocket
PCs, PDAs, and laptops.
Jay described hot spots and their function as access points in public places such as airports and hotels.
Discussion continued on applications, security, personal networks, DSL, cable, satellite and home wireless networking. Several of those attending have already gone wireless in their homes.
The information presented by Jay and the TESSCO team was enlightening and stimulated active discussion.
This summary is intended to encourage you to participate in future Information Systems Roundtables.
