Dana then introduced Arthur Olshansky who led our discussion on Firewalls and VPN’s.

Firewalls are available in different levels of security from packets to application layer gateways to stateful inspections, which are the most secure. It is important to understand your needs to be sure that you are blocking enough but not too much. Firewalls may be software or hardware based with hardware based being the most secure.

VPN’s, Virtual Private Networks, encrypt data before sending. They are the highest level of security. Arthur discussed the specifications of several products that are on the market.

Arthur took questions for discussion from those attending.

Arthur is a principal with Lantek Information Systems and can be reached at aolshansky@lantekis.com , website www.lantekis.com.
