Marco Ciavolino led us in a discussion and presentation on Small Businesses and Networks. We went through the how and why of the way networks work and then looked at the components of networks. Planning your network is key to success and that planning should include a checklist of structure, form, management, facilities and a look into your future needs.

A copy of this presentation is available to you at your request.

Marco Ciavolino is Vice President of Internet Technologies / R & D at Systems Alliance and can be reached at mciavolino@systemsalliance.com.

The Roundtable then discussed future programs and the need to provide information to a very diverse group. Allen Wainger and Mark Robertson contributed some excellent discussion points. Allen followed this with an email that I have attached for your review. Your comments will guide us in planning future programs.

To that end, we distributed a Feed Back form to find out how our programs are meeting your expectations and what we need to do in the future. Chairperson Dana will use these forms for guidance. Dana would also welcome anyone who would like to help in program planning. This is the only Roundtable that does not have a Program Chairman.

The legal aspects of information technology were suggested as a timely topic. Member Whiteford, Taylor & Preston represented by Greg Stone may be able to address this subject for us.

Marco suggested Placeware as in Internet source for presentations from outside sources. We will research this possibility.

Beth Bohns of Ward Machinery, now Marquip Ward, is looking for salary comparison data for IT professionals. Suggestions were made to contact our Human Resources Roundtable members for such data or to use a website “Mercer” (?) for such information.
