HVBF Monthly Meeting - Information Systems Roundtable Host: System Source Attending: Bill Bush, PDP Group Inc Daryl Sirota of System Source welcomed the Roundtable. Each person introduced themselves and their companies. Daryl previewed this program on layered security and then turned the discussion leadership over to Tim Butler of Symantec. The theme of Tim’s discussion was blended threats confronting layered defenses. Threats presently come in combinations and require layers of defense to defeat them. A good security policy is a “must have” first step in any successful security program. Tim polled the Roundtable to see how many had a written security policy in place. Results available on request. Templates are available to aide in building a security policy on the web at www.sans.org. The trend of threats is increasingly coming from outside instead of inside sources. Tim discussed the ten commandments of Visa and best practices that block most attacks. Security is built around perimeter defenses, proactive security and reactive security.
