Chairperson Dana Wiedefeld asked each person attending to introduce themselves and their company. Dana then introduced our discussion leader, Al Wainger of member EA Engineering. Our discussion today was about Microsoft Net Meeting.

Al shared with us the experience of using Microsoft Net Meeting as a training and shared communications tool to increase effectiveness and reduce costs.

Net Meeting, a Microsoft product, has allowed Al to support four hundred engineers with four hundred computers at multiple locations throughout the United States with a three person support staff. The mission is to provide help support and application training. Net Meeting allows the support person to go into the remote computer and with the user work through and solve the problems. Also, simultaneous training sessions can be conducted at multiple locations.

Net Meeting requires support staff with good telecommunications tools since all support is done on line and by phone.

Obvious advantages are the uniformity of training, immediate response time and tremendous savings in travel costs.

Darlene Veverka and Lonn Pascell who work with Al in support and training did an actual demonstration of the effectiveness of Net Meeting.
