The Roundtable opened with each person attending introducing themselves and their companies.

Michelle Wilder and Drew Lowry of Sprint PCS led the Roundtable discussion this morning on business applications of wireless technology.

Michelle gave us an overview of email, text messaging, voice products, business connections of enterprise and personal editions, wireless modem cards, integrated
office and PDA’s.

Drew followed with a cutting edge product portfolio overview of coming technology. This included push to talk, 2-way SMS text messaging, API’s for 3rd party integration, adding MSN, AIM, Yahoo IM to consumer portfolio, vault and vending machine enhancements, PCS Wi-Fi service, wireless remote access and direct connection services. Wireless local number portability was discussed allowing users to retain their wireless numbers when changing providers. Products were passed for examination among those attending.

We discussed the role of wireless in Homeland Security. Air cards for laptops would allow data communication during disasters via cell towers. We can expect broadband gridlock of voice communications immediately following an event. Data is not subject to the same impediment as voice at such a time. This could make communications continuance a reality.
