HVBF Monthly Meeting - Information Systems
Roundtable Host: Loyola College in Maryland Attending: Kevin Bruffey, Imagistics Chairman Mark Robertson welcomed those attending and opened the Roundtable. Mark turned the meeting over to John Keefauver of Ajilon Consulting who introduced Bruce Classing of Manchester Technologies who led our discussion. Today we discussed the Tablet PC product. The Tablet has been around for twelve years but was not popular because of early problems. The chief problems were the lack of operating system uniformity and low battery life. These obstacles have been addressed. The features of Tablet are mobility, ease of operation, light weight and flexibility. Docking stations and keyboards are available to compete with desktop pc’s. Industries finding Tablet PC useful are health care, insurance and industries with field services. Jamie Welsh of EA Engineering uses many of them in the field for their engineers. Health care workers use them for bedside data reporting and insurance adjusters use them for claims processing. Input choices are keyboard, print, write and vocal. The equipment has to be “trained” for a specific operator to function properly. Any software that runs on XP can be used. Bruce did a demonstration of Tablet PC to show its capabilities.
