Point Breeze Credit Union Wins National Association’s Top Honors for Community Commitment Following Baltimore Unrest
Credit Union National Association named Point Breeze as winner of its Social Responsibility Award for sponsoring art projects in Baltimore City schools

HUNT VALLEY, Md. – June 16, 2016 – Point Breeze Credit Union was recently honored with the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award from the Credit Union National Association (CUNA). The Hunt Valley-based Credit Union won the award for bringing art instruction to two elementary and middle schools following unrest in the city.

In May 2015, Point Breeze sponsored large-scale, legacy art installations at Margaret Brent Elementary/Middle School and Cecil Elementary School through a partnership with nonprofit organization, Arts Every Day. Almost 400 elementary and middle school-age children participated in the art enrichment program and constructed lasting art pieces that reflect their collaboration and creativity.

“At Point Breeze Credit Union, we are committed to supporting initiatives that enrich the learning environment for the children in the communities we serve. We felt that these arts initiatives provide students with an outlet for positive and constructive engagement during a very difficult time in our city following the Baltimore unrest,” said Bernie McLaughlin, president and CEO of Point Breeze Credit Union. “Credit unions have long been great champions for the communities they serve, and we are very happy to carry on the tradition of people helping people. We’re honored to have our efforts in this area recognized by this special award from CUNA.”

The Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award is given to a credit union or credit union group for its external social responsibility projects within the community. Point Breeze was awarded the distinction for the state of Maryland and will go on to compete against other state winners for the National award.

McLaughlin and Genie Briggs, senior vice president, director of marketing at Point Breeze, accepted the award on June 6, 2016 at the Maryland Ι DC Credit Union Association’s Annual Meeting and Convention in Ocean City, Md.
