Hunt Valley’s June 24 Open House Celebrates “Golf with a Twist”

Revitalized Baltimore-Area Club Adds Family-Friendly “Swing, Sling, & Kick” Activities

DALLAS, Texas (June 13, 2017) — An innovative, three-in-one golf course will be the star attraction on Saturday, June 24 when Hunt Valley Country Club an Arcis Golf property in the scenic Maryland countryside, unveils its newly renovated course, The Ridge 9.

Part of the transformation of Hunt Valley CC—which has undergone a $2.5-million revitalization of the entire property — The Ridge 9 offers nine holes of golf, along with 18 holes of two other games designed to be played on a traditional golf course: Disc golf and Footgolf. Together, the three-in-one Ridge 9 offers a family-friendly environment that positions Hunt Valley as the most innovative golf club in the region.

The Ridge 9 debut will showcase the variety of “swing, sling and kick” sport activities the course now offers. This day-long event is open to the public from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and includes a tee shot accuracy contest for golfers, Disc golf, and Footgolfers; a “dart game” Footgolf station; regulation Disc golf holes; a speed-golf contest for all three games; and more on-course fun for guests to try. A complimentary barbecue lunch will also be served.  RSVP for the event at  www.swingslingkick.com.

“This is the only place on the East Coast where you will find a country club that has a championship golf course, plus Disc and Footgolf courses,” said Jon Vodehnal, general manager of Hunt Valley Country Club. “The upgrades to The Valley, our 18-hole championship layout, have enhanced shot values and improved playability.  On The Ridge 9 we’re offering fun experiences the whole family can enjoy, no matter how they like to play.”

The Ridge 9 also allows Hunt Valley County Club the ability to host different types of private events, from birthday celebrations to corporate outings and benefit golf tournaments, which all can explore new ways to enjoy golf, and the new golf courses.

Located 22 miles north of downtown Baltimore in a family-centric community that was once known for historic horse farms, Hunt Valley Country Club remains the region’s premier golf experience. The club’s 18-hole layout –The Valley—was redesigned in 2016 by Fry/Straka Global Golf Course Design.  Additionally, a new practice range features two-elevated tiers with grass hitting surfaces and artificial turf. The range also was extended to accommodate a full array of clubs, benefitting golfers warming up and practicing as well as the club’s staff of PGA golf professionals and their students.

The enhancements made to Hunt Valley Country Club are part of Arcis Golf’s commitment to allocate millions of dollars in major capital improvements to its portfolio of 68 public and private facilities nationwide, an indication of the dynamic direction the Dallas-based company is taking in the golf industry.

The Gunpowder Valley Conservancy (GVC), a local non-profit organization, mobilizes people to preserve land and restore the natural system in the Gunpowder Watershed. This watershed begins in Pennsylvania and runs down through Hunt Valley along the Torrey Brown trail (previously known as the NCR trail), Loch Raven, Lower Gunpowder as well as Middle and Bird River Watersheds.  In our efforts to accomplish our restoration goals, we partner with corporations, in addition to schools, service clubs and communities, to organize activities such as tree planting, trail maintenance and stream clean-up events that are a great way to get your employees involved in an activity that is fun and beneficial!  In our tree planting efforts, opportunities are available for institutions, corporations and landowners that have a minimum of 1 acre or more of land they would like reforested, preferably near a creek or stream.

With the help of 10,000 volunteers, the Gunpowder Valley Conservancy has successfully planted over 28,000 trees on approximately 150 acres of land in the Gunpowder watershed!

Trees and forests are essential to healthy ecosystems as they reduce storm water runoff, stabilize stream banks, beneficial to clean air by capturing carbon dioxide and releasing into the atmosphere, as well as providing habitat for the nature.  Tree roots and leaf litter create soil conditions that promote the infiltration of rainwater into the soil, helping to replenish our groundwater supply and maintain streamflow during dry periods. In addition to improving air quality, providing habitat for wildlife, trees have been shown to increase property values!

    From NottinghamMD.com:

It’s official.  The new Kona Ice shaved ice stand in Carney will hold a Grand Opening and Ribbon-Cutting event on Saturday, April 8, 2017.

The event will be held at 10 a.m. at the corner of Joppa Road and Magledt Road in Carney. The site was once the location of My-T-Fine Snowballs, but Joni and Claude Elmore have renovated the shop in recent months, and they say that the new Kona Ice will be bringing back many of the old My-T-Fine flavors. Patrons will even be able to get a scoop of ice cream at the bottom of their cups.

Last year, Baltimore County Councilman David Marks introduced legislation that would provide some certainty for snowball stand operators like the Elmores, allowing stands by right in certain zones and with some restrictions.

“This property has been eyed by developers for many years, and I applaud the Elmores for investing to improve this iconic structure,” Councilman Marks commented.

There has been a snowball stand at this location for more than six decades.
